This is my very favorite holiday of all, I absolutely love new beginnings. I love that there are no rules to this holiday, no frantic shopping and spending. You can party wildly or you can go on to bed at eight o'clock if that's what you feel like doing. You can make resolutions or not, anything your heart desires.

But what I love even more are the birthdays that happen in this first month! Three of our boys and the littlest grandgirl ... and mine, too! Birthdays are such a special celebration, your very own birth day!

So we start the new year with full hearts and have great hope & excitement for the coming days.

Hope it's a joyful time for us all.

I could be talking about Lab puppies but this time it's about new pieces of leather. One is a deep, rich brown and the bigger one is lucious gold.

I would love to have wonderful stories of where each part of a bag that I make comes from, like Dawn on her lovely site ~ she can just make you drool with every descriptive word! But all I've got for you is that I went down the street to Colorado Leather Goods and really appreciated the nice young guy that was very helpful and patient and didn't mind bringing out many pieces even though he knew I could only

purchase three hides and he wasn't too chatty or stay too close while I took my time smoothing each one out and checking all the edges, the most important parts for me.

This is the first finished bag out of the golden deerskin, it sold the day after I put it in the window at the studio. Emily's dad knew she would love it ~ she did and was thrilled to take it home with her to Denver!

I haven't always had an easy time working with leather, there have been a couple of times that I quit during these many years but it is feeling pretty good to me right now. This may sound silly to some but I think it is important to say a little prayer and a big thank you before you make that first cut and then to pay close attention to what wants to come forth ... I like the surprises!

There's a lady I know ...

... but only from reading her blog. I've been inhaling her words for quite awhile and still come across things from her that stun me, that make me think that I couldn't live another day without having read these words. Her writing moves me like nothing else ... makes me think, makes me wonder, makes me cry and makes me want to hug her tight. When I finished reading this list I felt for sure that she must know my heart and must know these things I needed to hear. I copied the list and have it where it is visible to me at my work table because I feel as if I need to study this, read and reread, remember
the messages. That's some very profound knowledge to gain.

How does someone do this? Write such beautiful, raw, insightful, playful, meaningful words time after time? I've never aspired to be a writer, as much as I have always loved to read, but I am so thrilled that so many have and do and do it so well!

And Jen does so much more than use her words to rock your world. She's out there in it, helping families, changing lives, caring so deeply.

Our good friend Michelle did not ask but we both wanted to donate pieces for this auction and for this cause, for this young woman. There was another very good friend of mine who lived with MS and there wasn't much I could do to help her. This mean disease affects so many, especially in this age group.
